SP.KOFI &PATIENCE |
Responding to this claims made by Patience N.,SP.Kofi Sarpong Spoke in an interview on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review on Thursday, S P Kofi Sarpong wondered why his fellow Gospel Musician wants him dropped from the Album of the year category without any substantial basis.
“I sometimes find it difficult to understand why our own Gospel stars try to pull down each other when we are all striving for the same goal in the Industry.”
Patience Nyarko also responded in a reserved manner that VGMA Board publicly said no Gospel Artist qualifies for the Gospel Album of the Year since no musician had two or three hit songs on his or her album hence she was of the view that S.P Kofi Sarpong doesn’t deserve to be nominated in the overall Album of the year category.
“SP Kofi Sarpong’s ‘I Believe’ album did not also promote three hit songs hence it was not good for him to gain the nomination. Someone is favouring somebody because none of the gospel musicians were able to promote two or three hit songs on their album…No gospel musician qualified to be nominated in the gospel album or the overall album of the year category, so why should SP Sarpong be nominated in the album of the year category.
“My song ‘W’afom Kwan’ topped almost all the gospel chart shows across Ghana for several months and even transcend to some secular chart shows, none of SP Sarpong song even topped any chart shows. If at least they won’t nominate my song or album, what about the likes of Omane Acheampomg’s ‘Aporsor’ or that of Obaapa Christy’s ‘hyebre sesafo’.
“I am not
here to pretend or lie to gain favour from anyone; my own album failed
to promote two to three hits and my colleagues alike…So why should the
VGMA board nominate SP Sarpong if not for a favour being done someone,
and even to the overall artiste of the year”. She questioned.
Meanwhile the Board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), have scrapped the Gospel Album of the Year category from this year’s event, but it seems S P Kofi Sarpong was able to get his way through to the overall Album of the Year category.
Patrons of the event at a press conference held at World Trade Centre in Accra early February disclosed that the category which remains genre specific would be discontinued.
Nii Ayitey Hammond, a Board Member, revealed that the board did not get enough albums with a minimum of three hit songs to meet its five nominations per category requirement.
He added that as a result, songs from all genres will compete in the Album Of The Year category except Gospel. But the question is why should be complaining why her fellow is succeeding?
