Ampaw, Gyan manager clash in court

Ampaw, Gyan manager clash in court

Ampaw Gyan Castro
Samuel Anim Addo, Manager of Asamoah Gyan, captain of the Ghana national football team, has said that the footballer is not worried about threats by Sarah Kwablah to release a supposed sex video.

He said Gyan rather reported the case to the police because it was a threat to the international footballer.

According to Anim Addo who was making his third appearance in the dock for cross-examination by Dr Maurice Ampaw, it was false that Gyan was worried by the threats of Sarah.

Liar

But Dr Ampaw insisted that the footballer was worried and pleaded with Sarah not to release the said sex video.

In the view of the lawyer, Anim Addo was not a truthful witness to the court, insisting that the captain of the national team sent Sarah a WhatsApp message which read, “I doubt that your father is a police officer and I am sorry, I thought you wanted it (sic).”

Dr Ampaw alleged that the witness was given what he said was a “special duty” by Gyan to convince Sarah to abort the pregnancy, an allegation Anim Addo vehemently denied.

The trial judge, Ms Afia Agbanu Kumador, has adjourned sitting until February 8, 2016 when a supposed audio recording capturing the accused persons threatening to extort money from Gyan is expected to be played.

Accused persons

Sarah, 21, Osafo Anthony, 29, journalist, and Chris Handler, a blogger, have been variously charged for conspiring to extort money from Samuel Anim Addo, the manager of Asamoah Gyan, while popular reggae musician Lester Ekow Micah, 43, has been slapped with the charge of abetment.

The four persons are being tried for allegedly extorting GH¢25,000 from Addo by means of threat.

Evidence

.
Addo had earlier told the court in his evidence that the accused persons had threatened Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars captain, with evidence of text messages to defame him (Gyan) and subsequently follow it with a publication of a sex video if some monies were not paid.

According to Addo, Sarah was the first to threaten and he reported the case to the Odorkor police.

Addo said Osafo, as a result, demanded GH¢30,000 and threatened to publish more stories if the money was not paid.

He said the police asked him to feign interest in the payment of the money, stressing that he met Osafo at an agreed venue and paid GH¢10,000 cash and a cheque of GH¢15,000. The journalist was arrested on receipt of the cash and cheque.

What makes Richard Asante a.k.a Kalybos stand out of the lot ever since he became a star after his web skit went viral is his hats.

This he claims is part of his branding but many are of the view that they are not just ordinary.

In an interview with Delay, the comic actor debunked the rumours saying that there are no magical powers associated with the hats he wears.

Kalybos said “There is nothing special about the hat. There is nothing spiritual about it. I started with three, now I have over 70 and counting. Most are gifts from friends. Also I am a shy person especially when it comes to interpersonal relationship, so the hats serve as a covering for me.”

Kalybos hails from Kumasi-yeji and is a brand ambassador for mobile network Airtel. He became popular with Ahoufe Patri through their short videos on YouTube dubbed Boys Kasa.

Mahama' s son Hama, not riding on father's fame

Rasheed Mahama SongThe musical abilities of President John Mahama’s son are self-evident and not down to the popularity of his father, his manager Sadiq Abu has revealed

Rasheed has been trending for some time now on social media following the release of his debut single Bodam, which means ‘Go crazy’ in Akan.

"Rasheed is a talented artiste. When you listen to the song, you can testify for yourself he's not thriving on his father’s image," Sadiq told DJ Premier on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5fm.

Sadiq said his artiste might take up music as a career after his education at the Ashesi University.

According to him, Rasheed has a lot under his sleeves “so, the world should watch out for him”.

Asked about what he made of the release of the song in an election year, Sadiq said: "Well, as an entertainer, I don't see anything wrong with the release time. But if the party his father belongs to starts to say it's affecting them, we'll know what to do.

"I can't confirm if the president has listened to his son's song. That information hasn't been made available to me yet," he said. Rasheed Mahama goes by the stage name Hama.

Wisa’s lawyer dumps him in Court

Wisa Greid BlastedCounsel for embattled Hiplife Musician Eugene Ashie, a.k.a Wisa Greid of ‘Ekiki Me’ fame, Jerry Agbenovor has abandoned his client at the premises of an Accra Court claiming the latter and his manager failed to properly negotiate the terms for his services.

Wisa is standing trial at an Accra Circuit Court 5 for showing off his genitals to a live audience in ecstasy on Christmas Eve last year and was due for court today Monday, January 25, 2015.

At the time of going to press, the case was yet to be called in one of the country’s busiest courts but without any legal representation.

Speaking on the Ultimate Brunch Show Hosted by Naa Klordey Ordonkor, Starr Fm’s Accra Court Correspondent Wilberforce Asare disclosed that Lawyer Jerry Agbenovor was in court but said he was not there as legal representation of Wisa.

He maintained that the musician and his manager had failed to properly negotiate the terms and conditions of his services and also remained tight-lipped over the exact amount to be paid to him as legal fees for his services.

Manager of the Musician has however promised to resolve the problem to ensure that the Musician is properly represented in court during the next adjournment date.

Jerry Agbenovor it would be recalled in defence for his client said he only showed a dildo and not his genitals during a live performance at the Accra International Conference Center.

The stance of his lawyer however, contradicts that of the musician who openly apologized for his conduct stating;“I cannot explain this rash and irresponsible behaviour, but I have been trained to acknowledge my fault and be responsible for my actions. That is why I want to accept every bit of criticism that has come my way in the ensuing hours”.

I don’t mind working with Wisa - SP Sarpong

Sp Sarpong WineWhile some of Wisa of Ekiikimi, fame’s colleagues in the secular music world might think twice before collaborating with him due to the incident where he exposed his manhood on stage recently, gospel musician SP Kofi Sarpong says he would not hesitate to work with him.

This comes after media reports that managers of the two artistes were in talks for them to collaborate on a song. Kofi Sarpong, however, says nothing has been finalised yet.

Considering the fact that both gentlemen are from different worlds musically, one would wonder why the Ayeyi Ndwom crooner would want to collaborate with Wisa since their lyrics are worlds apart.

Wisa is currently standing trial for indecent exposure at an Accra Circuit court. In a chat with Showbiz, SP Sarpong said “in case I do a collabo with Wisa, it would be my way of telling the world that, God does not judge us. He accepts us no matter how many times we err, so why should we do contrary to what God does for us?”, he questioned.

He emphasised that Ghanaians have criticised Wisa enough and though he knows he would receive a lot of criticism from his fans if he went ahead, he would still go ahead to work with him.

According to Kofi, his manager Akwesi Ernest who is currently out of the country, contacted Wisa’s team without his prior knowledge but preparations are still underway.

The Adom Bi singer said after Wisa’s inappropriate behaviour on stage last month, he (Sarpong) tried to contact him through comedian, Funny Face but things did not happen as planned until early this month when he met Wisa.

“At the time I met him, I had no idea my manager had spoken to his team but I simply wanted to encourage him because I felt sorry for him. We had a conversation and I could see he had deeply regretted his actions.

I wasn't a virgin when i married - Joyce Blessing

Joyce Blessing HusbandGospel musician, Joyce Blessing says she was not a virgin when she got married to her husband, Mr Blessing.

The award-winning gospel artiste revealed on Vibes in 5, Friday that she dedicated her entire life to God after breaking her virginity and asked for His mercies.

“I was not a virgin when I got married but I asked for God’s mercies for engaging in such act before marriage.”

She further bemoaned the fact that several Gospel Musicians were disinterested in educating themselves further to enhance their performance during an event.

Joyce Blessing noted that as a gospel musician, how one carries his or herself on stage matters in terms of attitude and dressing when ministering to an audience.

She is one artiste who has arguably disabused the perception that gospel musicians are dull on stage.

Joyce’s performance at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) during the first edition of the GN Bank Awards received positive remarks from entertainment pundits.

Joyce put up an electrifying performance to entertain the gathering. She wowed the crowd again at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with yet another mind-blowing live band performance.

Reggae music in Ghana needs a facelift - Root Eye

Reggae music in Ghana needs a facelift - Root Eye

Root Eye SuitThe Director of Reggae and Dancehall for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Kwasi Nyarko-Ofei popularly known as Root Eye, has stated that Reggae music in Ghana needs a facelift.

Speaking to KMJ on his appointment, Root Eye said although he is yet to be told his job description, he was sure his office will be tasked to make the genre more appealing.

“It should be expected of me to move reggae music in Ghana forward. The idea is to give reggae music a facelift in Ghana because there has been some misconceptions towards reggae music so even though Ghanaians love reggae music to the bone, we still cannot generally accept our reggae music. A few people have even said if Rocky Dawuni had lived in Ghana, he wouldn’t have been recognised at the Grammys platform. So I think that there has to be a facelift,” he said on Daybreak Hitz.

Root Eye, known for his Heaviest Rain song, pointed out, the notion that any dreadlock wearing individual can do reggae would be looked into as one of the ways to clean up the system. He was unhappy that most Ghanaian reggae songs had no message to have an impact on the people.

“We need to do some works to clean the face of reggae music… It may include getting people who are not reggae musicians finding different jobs and moving away from reggae music. We also must clean the lyrics up. I think reggae music in Ghana has always been ‘burn this, burn that’ and you don’t hear anything. You can count only a few who are doing great music,” he noted.

CNN features Ghanaian Artist for portraying top celebs in African wear

CNN features Ghanaian Artist for portraying top celebs in African wear

Denny Owusu StarsFor New York-based Ghanaian artist Dennis Owusu-Ansah, it took ‘teasing’ to trigger an inspiration that has gone on to capture the attention of not only social media but one of the world’s largest media platforms CNN.

In a full feature story, CNN described Dennis Owusu-Ansah as a Ghanaian artist whose pop art images are taking Instagram by storm.

The unique thing about his project is reworking and reimagining some of the world's biggest celebrities in authentic African clothing and cultural attire, with the sole aim of highlighting the beauty of Africa through his work.

Talking to CNN about what sparked the drawings, Dennis stated; "after witnessing my friend get teased by a group of men for wearing a Kente cloth on our way to church, I figured something must be done to change the perspective of people who are not familiar with the African culture.

"They had no idea what my friend was wearing. One of the guys shouted 'That man has a blanket wrapped around his body like it's winter time.' I saw this incident as an opportunity to educate people about who we are, and what we stand for through my art,’’ he told CNN.

With bright block colors contrasting intricate patterns, the images have transformed the likes of Drake, Rihanna and Beyonce into powerful African icons in traditional dress and with traditional names. After that life-changing moment, 26-year-old Owusu-Ansah decided that he wanted his art to tell a story and for his audience to learn, "that Africa isn't only about what the media portrays on television," but that it is "a continent rich in history, diversity and traditions."

Choosing to depict celebrities trending in the entertainment business, Owusu-Ansah knows that they have an influence on their fans.

By illustrating them in African clothing, he hopes that it will bring awareness to traditional culture, and allow people to start educating themselves and those around them in African culture.

With over 12,000 Instagram followers, Owusu-Ansah's fanbase is growing every day and he has even branched into creating unisex clothing.

His work doesn't seem to be slowing down and neither does his audience in their quest for accessible African art, knowledge and tradition

According to Episode, through his collaboration with the "RM" boss he has been able to grow his fan base in Ghanaian ghettos where dance hall is much appreciated.

He also stated that he gave Rudebwoy the leverage to launch career to the corporate world and this was made possible through their collaboration.

"I am happy that I was able to bring Rudebwoy from just a street artist to a corporate kind of artist because his first corporate show he played was with me and ever since we have been able to work on many stages."

Afia Schwarzenegger and Joyce Dzidzor 'fight' on radio

Afia Schwarzenegger and Joyce Dzidzor 'fight' on radio

Afia JoyceOutspoken radio and TV personality, Afia Schwarzenegger had a tough time on radio with former Ghana Aids Ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah who released a statement on Sunday, January 17 to announce that ” I lied about my HIV status to protect my children. I test positive to HIV in the year 2007.”

In her u-turn to confess that she is HIV/AIDS positive, Joyce asked His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to pay her the amount the state owned her when she was serving as an ambassador for the commission.

"I therefore humbly request of him to pay me my compensation and my shelter which was agreed upon since Madam Angela has taken it away from me".

Afia who sounded angry after she called madam Joyce expressed her disappointment in the manner she is playing with minds of Ghanaians. The conversation became worst after Joyce could not convince the Okay FM presenter why the government should pay her an amount she claims the state owns when she was an ambassador.

According to Joyce, she sees nothing wrong with the money she is demanding from government since a lot of government officials are spending tax payers money without giving reasons.

The two exchanged words for about five minutes until Joyce Dzidzor Mensah cut the line when she could not stand the heat anymore on Okay FM.

The Ghana AIDS Commission says it has been exonerated by confession of former AIDS ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah who now says is HIV positive.

The former AIDS Ambassador publicly denied her HIV positive status in December 2014. Her denial raised questions about how the Commission ascertained the HIV status of persons before it signs an infected person for anti-stigmatization campaigns.

Guru is a greedy guy – Pope Skinny

Pope Skinny GreedyGhanaian rapper who is currently the road manager for Shatta Wale, Pope Skinny has detailed what brought about his ‘beef’ with rapper Guru.

The Akuapem rapper in his recent interview on Hitz FM explaining his ten months old Facebook post which claimed that Guru was stealing songs and making hits out of them revealed that the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker is greedy.

I don’t have any problems with Guru. Pope said on Hitz FM. “We were good friends until I realized that he was a greedy guy. I also realized that left to him, he will be the only one eating. He wasn’t my close friend. Guru is my son. I started music in 2002, Guru just started music. Guru calls me father. When I was in JSS 2, I had a hit record with Buk Bak. That was in 2003, Guru had not written his first rap yet.

“Now, I’m not cool with him but after the issue we haven’t met, if we meet because we are boys, we will put things aside and exchange pleasantries but we haven’t met yet. I have met his management and they explained the reason why he did what he did but I got to realize from the explanation that Guru wasn’t real.”

Meet Asamoah Gyan’s wife and kids

Gyan WifeFor a while now, many Ghanaians have held divided opinions on whether or not Asamoah Gyan, captain of the country’s national football team, has a wife and if so who she might be.

This controversy gained momentum in recent times when a couple of online sites went agog with stories that Asamoah Gyan was dating a lady by name Nina.

Though no evidence whatsoever was given to back the grapevine reports, this Nina was said to be a ‘high class’ lady who is well connected to influential people including a top Jamaican dancehall musician.

NEWS-ONE has gathered that Asamoah Gyan, indeed, has a wife and is legally married to one Gifty. Reports say she stays in one of the footballer’s mansions near the Spintex Road in Accra and that they have three children.

Gifty and Asamoah are said to have been in a relationship for close to 15 years but she has decided to remain off camera for reasons best known to the couple.

NEWS-ONE has received photos of Gifty and her children and would be delving more into her relationship with the Black Stars captain soon.

'I bought the Toyota Tundra before my manager’s death’

'I bought the Toyota Tundra before my manager’s death’-Amakye Dede

Amakye TundraLegendary highlife musician, Abrantie Amakye Dede, has denied media reports that he bought his new Toyota Tundra with customised number plate (Yesu Nti) after the death of his manager Isaac Yeboah.

Iron Boy, as he’s affectionately called, told BEATWAVES in an interview yesterday that he bought the Toyota Tundra some months back and it was parked in his house until he decided to register it in January.

Abrantie Amakye Dede, who is still recuperating from an accident that claimed the life of his manager, disclosed that “I bought the vehicle some months ago. I am surprised that a section of the media is speculating that I bought the vehicle after the death of my manager. I only registered the vehicle this year.”

He advised the media and Ghanaians to desist from acts that seek to undermine the credibility of innocent people, adding that his doors are open to journalists who want to interview him about the accident, among others.

Start banning offensive musicians

Start banning offensive musicians

 Bandanashatta
Even though the 2016 edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has not been officially launched, it looks like an issue concerning the scheme is already being widely discussed in the media. This is expected anyway and the discussion is expected to continue unabated until the day that a new Artiste of the Year is named.

When industry personalities meet to discuss matters concerning the music industry and the awards in particular, this same issue inevitably finds its way to the fore for discussions.
The issue in question is whether Dancehall act and winner of the VGMA Artiste of the Year winner in 2014, Shatta Wale should be nominated in the upcoming awards.

The noise about his nominations or otherwise is because Shatta Wale said he didn’t want to be nominated or associated with the awards but later made a sharp U-turn to show interest in the scheme, claiming his fans wanted him to take part.

To show his seriousness about wanting to be part of the scheme, last Wednesday, Shatta Wale met the organisers of the awards, Charterhouse to submit his works for consideration into the 2016 awards.
According to reports, he submitted 10 out of the 90 songs he released in 2015 including Kakai, Hol It, Kill 'em with Prayers, Chop Kiss, Zinabu and Reality.

Prior to submitting the songs, he told JoyNews, “Well, you know I’ve gotten calls everywhere and it’s mostly from my fans, telling me to forget certain things and move with the system.”

“I feel they are my god and they really pushed my music and got it to where it has to be and I believe they made me who I am so I told my team since the fans are asking then let’s submit it. I’m the type that doesn’t fancy awards but since the fans want it, we will submit it whether we win or not.”

I will not waste people’s time in revisiting the ‘Shatta Wale don’t nominate me and you can now nominate me’ saga. Just like Tupac said, “life goes on.” Should Shatta Wale be nominated or not, nothing at all will change. The awards will still come off as planned in May 2016.

Without an iota of doubt, the introduction of the annual Ghana Music Awards has helped the country and musicians in general. However, this has not entirely been without any challenges but the awards has added more positive energy to the lives of the musicians than negativity.

What I mean is that, it has brought some level of attention to Ghana in terms of how the country’s musicians are seen. Now, I can comfortably say that, Ghanaian musicians are revered in different parts of the world. If not for nothing at all, the VGMA is the biggest award scheme in West Africa.
Previously, Ghanaian musicians did not dare try to organise shows in Europe and America but now with the exposure that the scheme has given them, they are able to organise different shows and they are always sold out.

I must also add that, for some years now, Ghanaian music has been enjoying massive international appeal than it used to previously. Ghanaian musicians are now recognised on several international platforms and even nominated in different awards schemes on the continent and beyond.

There is no need to waste everyone else’s time to point out which scheme is responsible for the above. All the above have come into play and this is because of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The scheme will be 17 years this year. A lot can happen in 17 years and that confirms the different stages that, the scheme has passed through to reach its current position. All these were achieved with hard work and the spirit of humility.

A lot of these award schemes have come and folded up, a reason to congratulate Charterhouse, the organisers, for doing such a fantastic job over the past few years and for still running the awards despite all the hateful messages, insults and numerous challenges. Secondly, for growing the scheme and maintaining its standard.

The scheme has reached the stage where, musicians release songs targeting the awards and hoping it will favour them. The VGMA is the biggest event on the Ghanaian music calendar that every musician looks forward to.

The awards have become the yardstick by which the country’s standards in music are measured. I have personally being approached by musicians whose publicity tactics is geared towards winning the awards. Therefore, I know what I’m talking about here.

When musicians are lucky to win an award, they flaunt it and make all the noise. It doesn’t end there, they and their music get a lot of attention. In fact, their ratings go up. They are referred to as … “award winning musicians” and that’s something to be proud about.

Those who are not able to win take it personal and use offensive and unprintable words in describing the scheme and the Board members who sat through the process. This at least confirms that, the musicians like and appreciate the scheme. If not, why would musicians take it personal because they are not able to win a particular category?

Even there is more to be enjoyed when one wins the ultimate award, which is the Artiste of the Year. Aside the plaque, the money and the bragging rights. The musician gets unparalleled home and international attention in other awards like the BET Awards.

With all the scheme is doing for the industry, it’s about time that, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) start thinking of dealing with musicians to serve as deterrent to other musicians who attack the Board and the scheme needlessly.
Listen; just as one needs a visa to have a smooth travel to most countries, it’s the same way that, the Ghana Music Awards has become like a musician’s ticket to international platforms. The earlier the Board starts biting musicians for the betterment of the scheme and the industry, the better.

When one commits a crime, the person may be remorseful and pray for forgiveness from the Almighty God but the person must still pay for the crime he or she committed on earth and this is in the courtroom.

Praying for forgiveness or apologising does not necessarily mean whatever crime was committed is null and void. For the past number of years, the awards has been awarding people from all walks of life, why then do we allow few people to be disrespectful to the scheme and bring its name into disrepute?

Over the years, we have had too many musicians disrespect the scheme because one or two things didn’t favour them. Let’s clamp down on these people.

I am not suggesting that, Shatta Wale should not be nominated, all I’m saying is that, the Board must use him to set a good example for others to follow. Over to you VGMA Board.

I'm not a prostitute - Moesha Boduong tells critics

I'm not a prostitute - Moesha Boduong tells critics

Moesha WaistContrary to what may seem like an outgoing personality and her provocative style of dressing which usually generates so much controversy on social media, actress Moesha Boduong has told Showbiz that in reality, she is a very shy person.

Moesha has even been called a prostitute and criticised on social media as an attention seeker due to her semi-nude pictures which surface online regularly and her style of dressing which shows off her massive curves but she says her public personality is very different from her real life person.

In an interview with Showbiz recently, Moesha said despite the criticisms and name calling, she does not care about what people say or think about her because she is only having fun and being herself.

“I am a very shy person and I don’t know why some people see me as a bad girl or an attention seeker simply because I am having fun by taking pictures. Some people even call me a prostitute but I am not. In fact, I don’t care what they say or think about me because they don’t know me,” the native of Upper West Region said.

According to Moesha, 25, who models too, although she is a shy person, she can be friendly too. “ Yes, I am a shy person but very sociable too. I love the company of people. When I was in school, whenever there was a new comer, I was the first person to make friends with the person. I am a nice person and just want people to see me as one of their own”, she said.

Moesha who has featured in movies such as Pool Party, Bloodline, Grey Dawn, Rape Case among others, said although she has been acting for sometime now, she is not very popular in the movie industry. “ I think this is because I have not played lead roles and most of the movies I have featured in are yet to be premiered.

She however, has plans of going beyond acting to produce movies soon. “I have always had the passion for acting and would like to take my movie career a notch higher.

“The system has been slow with the load shedding in the country. So instead of waiting for producers to contact me, I’m going to start producing my own movies and exhibit my talent. Then those who think I have no talents will see that I really do have” she added.

Zapp Mallet eyes Parliament

Zapp Mallet eyes Parliament

Zapp Mallet Panel EdSound engineer and producer, Zapp Mallet has declared his intention to contest as a Member of Parliament.

Zapp made this known on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz during a discussion on whether showbiz personalities going into politics is worth commending or not.

According to him, he would not hesitate if the opportunity comes.

“I was just thinking about it while the discussion was going on. I was like ‘why don’t I vie for parliamentary seat…?’ I’m a Ghanaian, I have the constitutional right and I think if I should be there, I could make an impact. It’s an ardent task but we have to do it anyway. I think if the opportunity comes, I will take it just to serve mother Ghana,” he indicated.

Zapp Mallet argued that more showbiz personalities becoming Parliamentarians means a growth in the arts since policies concerning the sector will be well shaped.

“It’s encouraging, we need more of those people because certain policies concerning the arts are not regarded. Even if regarded, it’s on face value; there is no in-depth in it. But if we have more showbiz people in there, then policies concerning the arts would be in-depth and much more interesting for the industry. When we have more showbiz persons there, it will add to the weight,” he said.

A number of people in the showbiz circles have decided to venture into politics, seek endorsement as parliamentary candidates for their respective constituencies and serve their interest.

Already, television personalities including Kwame Djokoto, actress Ebi Bright, Don Arthur have secured their candidature on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa Nsuaem, Tema Central and Effutu constituencies respectively.

“Apart from Gospel artistes, almost 80% of the secular musicians use it. Some prefer wee, cigarette, alcohol… They have to go under the influence of some substances,” he said when host, Sammy Flex asked him to quantify artistes he works with who fall within the bracket.

Oteng, known for the signature, Wei Ye Oteng indicated that there are times some of the artistes who appeared dull in the studio asked if he knew of a ‘joint’.

“I know a lot. Some even take it before they set off from home so by the time they get to the studio, it’s working so well. If you have a rapport with the artiste, he can ask you where he could get some. And after they come, you see he’s a whole different nature. They come out really good. I don’t know why but I think it is their mind-set,” he said.

Oteng who has had engagement with a number of artistes disagreed with assertions that taking such substances improve the performance of artistes who. According to him, the act without talent is effortless.

“People do with and people do without. When they take it within their limits, it really helps because it gives them some energy… and sometimes if you the engineer don’t do that, all you have to do is to psyche yourself and tap into his energy and you guys will flow together… if you are not a true artiste, it will not make you sing better… It’s about how you psyche yourself,” he noted.

Among the songs Oteng has worked on are Odasani by Obrafour, Aware by Kumi Guitar. Sika Nti by Trigmatic and Fans by Koo Ntakra.

'Shatta Wale is not mentally stable'

'Shatta Wale is not mentally stable'

James Kwesi BerkoEntertainment critic and regular panel member on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, James Kwesi Oberko, fondly known as Jamester, who have added his voice to the debate in the entertainment industry – whether or not the board of Ghana Music Award should nominate Shatta Wale for this year’s edition of the award scheme, said, Shatta Wale is not mentality stable when it comes to sticking to his guns and it's unfortunate his brand is a negative brand.

According to Jamester, Shatta Wale is gaining all the publicity - but they’ve all been negative – due to that, Shatta is trying to use the opportunity to look good now from being a bad boy thing to the good boy thing but everyone knows him to be the bad boy.

“Shatta must understand that he has a long way to go in re-branding himself from the bad boy we know him for to the good boy and there are things to be suffered as he goes through his rebranding process” Jamester said.

The entertainment critic suggested that since Charter-house would be holding a press conference on Tuesday, 19th January, 2016, to address all issues surrounding Ghana Music Award, he will suggest to the house to tear Shatta wale’s nomination forms in front of the press and put it in the dustbin.

Akwai AboagyePopular entertainment-political host, Kwasi Aboagye, has strongly added his voice to the huge debate in the entertainment industry - whether or not the board of Ghana Music Award should nominate Shatta Wale for this year’s edition of the award scheme.

According to the Peace FM Entertainment Review host, what he has realized over the years is that Shatta wale is not consistent. One moment he says one thing, the next moment he says otherwise – contracting what he said earlier.

“I love him. I love his personality and how he carries himself. But I think organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Award should turn him down. They shouldn’t give him nomination. I think in recent times he’s one of the generations that has been smart in terms of showbiz and I like him for that but on one principle - he’s not consistent” Kwasi Aboagye opined.

Speaking On Peace FM Entertainment Review, he added that if Shatta Wale can come out clear without hiding behind his fans that will make his case a better one for anyone to go to his defense.

“What I think is that if Shatta Wale can come out clear and say that it’s him who’s submitting and not the fans asking him to do so that will be cool. `- MustaphaInusah.Com

“The next minute he will come back and say it was his fans who said they want it, so for that simple reason I think Charterhouse should turn him down” the Darling boy posited.

He suggested that there are a lot of things that Shatta Wale can do to remain relevant to keep the controversies on because without Ghana Music Award the musician can still survive.

'Be bold and tell us if we aren’t good enough for Music Awards'

'Be bold and tell us if we aren’t good enough for Music Awards'

Musician OjIt’s almost three weeks into the opening of nominations for the 2016 Ghana Music Awards and the controversies surrounding the awards are heating up.

Gospel musician OJ, born Michael Oware Sakyi, is asking organizers of the awards, Charter House, to scrap the Gospel Album of the Year category from the award scheme if they think it's not important.

He said, “If they think gospel is not doing well enough and they don’t want us to be part of it, they should be bold and tell us”.

The 2014 Gospel Song of the Year winner was reacting to suggestions by some entertainment pundits that the Gospel Album of the Year category should be scrapped. They were analysing the awards on Hitz FM’s ‘Showbiz This Week’ with MzGee.

George Quaye, Public Relations Officer of Charter House in a recent interview with ‘Showbiz This Week’ revealed that some entertainment pundits are calling for the category to be scrapped and joined with the album of the year category but according to OJ, it would not be fair since gospel musicians only have three slots on the scheme.

According to the ‘Maye Se Mo Pen’ singer, the awards has only three slots for gospel musicians out of over 28 categories and so scrapping one will mean that they will have only two slots making them insignificant.

“Over twenty-something categories and we have only three slots for gospel music and you want to scrap one out of it so it means the entire awards, we only have two slots for gospel music, then it means they don’t want us to be part of the awards”.

OJ alleged that because gospel artistes do not have any representative on the award’s board, they are often denied many opportunities.

“Already we don’t have the voice, we don’t have anybody to do that for us on the board. How many gospel musicians are on the board? There’ve been several times that my song has come up for Song Writer of the Year but because I don’t have any voice on the board speaking for the gospel genre, sometimes when it comes to voting, they’ll vote against the gospel people so already we are at a disadvantage,” he said.

He echoed again that “if we have only three slots for the entire awards scheme and you want to take one out of it and give us two, then you might as well tell not to come there at all.”

On whether gospel artistes could compete with the other genres in the album of the year category, OJ said, “they should put us there. Are they not in control of the awards scheme? But at the end of the day we’ll still stand at a disadvantage, whether they put us there or not, nobody is going to vote for a gospel musician against a secular artiste.”

He, however, stated that the argument that it is only gospel musicians who have that category cut out for them and that other music genres do not have same, a reason for which some pundits are calling for it to be scrapped, is flawed.

“Nobody is telling the other artistes to release only singles. If you don’t have the songs to make an album and you think you’ll release only singles then it doesn’t mean that the one who have a lot of songs who can put it on an album is making a mistake,” he added.

OJ nevertheless advised artistes who do the other music genres to also release albums instead of singles.

“Why don’t you compile the songs and maybe get a five track song or eight track song and just do it an album because at the end of the year if you come out with eight songs within the year and you release them as singles, you might as well put it on one CD and make it an album.”
